We were the first organised scale drag racing club in Australia and have been holding R/C Drag Racing meetings since June 1996.
We were originally located at the England Park, Brendale, running over a 20 metre track, which was very narrow. After a while, a new venue a Meakin Park, Slacks Creek, was found. The club ran there for about a year, then moved to a more suitable home at the Old International Airport until 2006. Our new home is located at the South Pine Sporting Complex, Brendale, where we run on a surface as smooth as Willowbank Raceway!
Our track at the South Pine Sporting Complex consists of "hotmix" bitumen which is wide, long and flat, making it a good surface for racing on. The track is 40.234 metres (44 yards, 132 feet) long and each lane has a width of 3.05 metres (3.3 yards, 10 feet). To get ultimate performance from both cars and the track, we treat the racing surface with a sugar/water mixture both before and during racing.
We race every 3 weeks (depending on Willowbank Raceway's calendar of course) at our tack at the South Pine Sporting Complex. Directions for finding the track can be located on the "Track" page.
Our timing system consists of a RaceAmerica Pro Tree 2500 series, which measures times to an accuracy of 0.001 of a second, speeds to 0.01 of a KPH (Kilometres Per Hour) and reaction times to 0.001 of a second. The tree can run handicap Full tree, handicap Pro Tree, as well as the usual heads up Full and Pro Tree starts.
All types of cars are welcome at our race days (both electric and gas), from the Tamiya and Kyosho type kit cars right through to the purpose built drag cars built by companies such as Litz, Lockmann, Walbern or Grand Motorsports. Also welcome are the scratch built drag cars in the suitable brackets. Classes have also been created to suit circuit & off-road racers who wish to give R/C Drag Racing a go.
