JUNE 2008

TF final

Pictured left of screen Nitro Funny Car record holder and Top Fuel round winner Todd Commons with runner up Brendan Podlich.

Todd set the Nitro Funny Car ET record to 1.809 seconds!

With a near perfect day and plenty of keen racers on the 14th June ensured records would tumble. Onlookers were not disappointed as Top Fuel saw the first sub 1.8 sec Nitro Funny Car pass in Australia. Todd's 1.761 @ 127.2 kph was achieved in the Top Fuel Final where he beat fellow Team mate Brendan who had been running consistant 1.6s with his nitro dragster.

Brendan didn't leave without writing himself in the QMDRA history book as he reset the Pro Stock speed record to 112.2 kph but was unable to make the final against Pete Ward handing him an easy win. Both Pete and Brendan say they have more of the same in Pro Stock and claim the ET record will be in the 1.9s soon!

Mr Consistant, Dan Eisenmenger took out the bracket class with his electric buggy.

Stew

Extreme Record Holder: Stewart Low

Stewart managed to lay down consecutive 1.6 passes to reset the Extreme record to 1.668

Maybe the race meet held on Saturday should be named Lowday as Team Low had a clean sweep! Ryan took out Extreme after 'his old man' Stewart reset the ET record during qualifying. Brother Adrian, back from his World Holiday for a couple of weeks, made an effort to get his car running for Shootout and with luck on his side made eliminations and took the win! Great effort guys!

27 April, 2008

The excitement of the Dash4Cash drew a few extra competitors making this meeting the largest to date for 2008! Big Steve spread the word and brought along some on-road racers that seemed to enjoy the day. A field of 21 for the Dash4Cash ensured everyone needed to be on their game if they wanted to take home the money. Eventually, Glenn and Ben C fought out the final with Ben Cruse prevailing as the winner!

Leigh and Crew made the trek north from Sydney again enjoying themselves although a little worse for wear after a big night before! Leigh running his Pro Stock under the current nitro record to top qualify but was unable to back it up. However, Pete also went under and was able to back it up resetting the Nitro Pro Stock record to 2.048 @ 108.4 km/h. Pete won Pro Stock and also took out Top Fuel claiming a speed record in the process!

Congratulations to all the winners!

A big thanks to all the helpers and officials that made the day a great one! 39 entries across 4 classes and we were packed up by 4.30pm! Great work.

18 April, 2008

It is with great disappointment I type this update having to advise everyone that our planned race meeting for 26 April is now cancelled due to a late change in football scheduling. However, we will be running the 1st half of the planned event on Friday 25 April with setup at 7am. We will honour ANZAC day by having a 1 minute silence in respect of the fallen soldiers that fought for our great country. We will also have a great day of racing with Top Fuel, Pro Stock and Bracket. It is very unlikely that we'll have our Southern friends up from Sydney now due to the change. The QMDRA will do everything it can to arrange another suitable event that we can host. Thank you.

12 April, 2008 Race Meet

A great effort with track setup ensured the meeting started on time! This was essential so we could run as many rounds of shootout as possible. We managed to get 3 rounds in before entering into the elimination rounds with Brow and Ryan contesting the final. Ryan took it out in style winning all of his heats picking up the bonus points!

The much anticipated Extreme class made it's debut with 5 entries. With the most powerful cars overpowering the track in warm up, Brendan and Todd chose to enter alternate cars for the class. The stand out performance was that of Pete's lightened Nitro Dragster which set the Extreme benchmark at 1.684 and 134.2km/h. Pete TQ'd, set the records and took the win to have him leave the complex with a very big smile on his face! He knows this benchmark will be smashed by the big LiPo cars next Extreme round and is glad to get a Nitro on the board, even it is possibly the only time!

Thank You - to all who assisted with the running of the day. To name a few specifically, Adam, for bringing the gear down, setting it up then collecting at the end of the day; Steve W for running the tree; Ben B for showing up at the right time and staying the whole day assisting Steve with the starting duties (great team work there guys); Dan with track prep; Brendan, Stewart, Ryan, Brow etc etc
Pretty much everyone who turned up assisted in some way which makes our club a great one to be apart of!

Shootout and Extreme are the scheduled classes for the 12 April event. SPSC is the venue, starting time 12 noon. We hope to be better prepared for this event and intend starting practice as soon as the track is setup. See you all there for our first Extreme class race as it's sure to be spectacular. For those who own cars, buggies, trucks or bikes and would like to give drag racing a go, shootout is the event for you. With multiple runs and handicap racing everyone will have a great time racing and wAtching!

30 March, 2008

A few minor setbacks in track setup delayed the start of racing by about an hour for what turned out to be an enjoyable day of racing. Thanks to Iplex Pipelines for donating 20 lengths of 100mm PVC pipe! The new side walls for the track worked floorless.

Ryan defeated Brendan in Bracket with an impressive show of car consistency running a 2.065 @ 107km/h on a 2.050 dial in. Ryan also made the final in Top Doorslammer but was unable to maintain his impressive unbeaten run.

Top Doorslammer - Ray qualified 4th but with a bit of good luck on his side managed to do enough to make the final. Saving his best performance until last, Ray's 2.038 @ 101km/h done the job to beat Ryan's 2.162 @ 99km/h!

Brendan's new Top Doorslammer showed great potential with a solid 1.78 @ 132km/h on his first pass in testing! Brendan TQ'd and reset the Nitro Top Doorslammer ET record to 1.85. Brendan's car was a handful all day with the front end skipping to 3/4 track on almost every pass. Unfortunately, Brendan crossed the centre line in the semi's handing the win to Ray who managed to dodge Brendan's car as in slid across the track in front of him just past the finish line.

Worthy mentions - Best jump of the day goes to Pete! If we had a concourse prize for best engineered it would have to go to Glenn for the amazing job he has done on his direct drive Willy's Top Doorslammer!

I would like to conclude by saying thanks for the teamwork guys! Setup, the running of the event and pack up was made easier with everyone helping out!

25 March, 2008

This Saturday 29 March will be round 1 of Top Doorslammer, round 2 of Bracket and following will be round 1 of Shootout! Shootout will be run as a separate event and registration fees will be taken from the time of the Slammer and Bracket finals.

The QMDRA encourages all RC car buffs whether they are racers or back yard bashers to bring what they have and give it a go at dial your own racing Shootout style! You don't have to own a drag specific RC car to enjoy RC drag racing!

Track setup 12 noon, with racing to start at 1:30pm sharp! Any changes to the setup or start time will be posted on the forum, so please check prior to race day!

Last but not least: GET WELL SOON JOSH! We all want to see you make a speedy recovery!

7 March, 2008

The 8 March race meeting has been cancelled due to a clash with a football event. It is unfortunate that Football takes preference over us, but this is apparently within the terms the QMDRA agreed to when we moved to the Complex! Please understand the current Committee will be doing everything in our power to obtain firm race dates for the future.

22 February, 2008

17 February, 2008

Saturday 16 Feb, the weather was looking pretty miserable with rain in sight and wind getting stronger. Not the ideal situation for drag racing on our first points Race Meet for the year!

However, Chad leading by example arrived at the track early to get stuck into track prep. As others arrived, all seemed keen to chip in and assist Chad. Chad's race surface was consistent all day. (Don't forget how you did it!)

The benchmark was set by Pete setting up the scrutineering table, going over every car for safety and class specifications with the assistance of head scrutineer Adam prior to any vehicle touching the track. I know that I'd like to say thanks to everyone for their assistance in making the day a really enjoyable one. Even with the short notice given for the change in schedule and a rain delay on the day which put us behind, it was a great day of racing for most. (Stewart may disagree as he has some major repair costs which may include a complete new chassis for his dragster)

tree

Bracket - Josh showed how consistent his dragster is with a 3.487 on a 3.480 dial in to win the final. Great job Josh showing up a lot of us older Blokes.
Pro Stock - With only 2 in the class, Pete and Ryan decided on a best of 3 races. With it going all the way to the 3rd race, Pete's nitro wins with 2/1 over Ryan's electric.
Top Fuel - 8 Cars qualified for Top Fuel. The all nitro final was between Brendan and Dan, with Dan winning on a hole shot.

Records - Congratulations to Brendan and Todd for resetting records. Brendan reset the Nitro TF Dragster record to 1.639 which is now quicker than the electric TF Dragster record! Todd managed to go under the Nitro Funny Car record by 1/1000 of a second and back it up! He also reset the Nitro Funny Car Speed record to 119.8km/h.

Until next update - That's all folks!
