What have the QMDRA Management Committee been up to?
SPSA had their AGM this Month which QMDRA was represented by the President Mick Mulcahy. Treasurer Peter Ward and Secretary Ray Lawrence were also in attendance. The three committee members had a prior meeting with two representatives from Moreton Regional Council who are scheduled to meet with all clubs the utilise the South Pine Sports Complex. The aim of the meeting is to obtain critical information for the Council to make strategic decisions regarding their site master plan to enhance and cater for growth in the complex. SPSC currently meets QMDRA minimum requirements however there is always room for improvement. Our wish list included an additional paved area (Asphalt) to increase the braking area, site storage, water and power closer to race track and a raised level area for starter/race director behind the start line.
As many of you are already aware, Ipswich Cirty Council is also working on a Master Plan for a complete RC facility at Carole Park which includes a RC drag strip. It is envisaged that QMDRA will operate out of both sites into the future enhancing RC drag racing across SE Queensland. Members can be assured that the Carole Park facility is still progressing through the planning stage and any large community based investment will take time. I'm sure the wait will be well worth while when the facility opens.
2010 Nationals Update
A few of the guys from PDNR in Sydney have already committed to coming to the Nationals again this year. It is the dedication of these guys and girls that make the Nationals what they are. We hope to see representation from Victoria as well this year, making this the best RC Drag Racing event Australia has ever seen. QMDRA welcome all competitors and offer a number of classes to ensure there is something suitable for everyone. If there are a bunch of guys/girls who compete in other forms of RC racing and would like to give RC drag racing a go, please make yourself heard and make a specific class proposal to the race organisers and we'll see if we can fit it into the schedule. We will consider any Nationally recognised onroad or offroad classes providing we have adequate entries. Other than that the 'dial your own' bracket class is suitable to all forms of 1/10 and 1/8 scale RC cars, trucks, buggies etc.

The QMDRA recently had a trade display at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway. The QMDRA guys spent 3 days talking to hundreds of people interested in our scale drag cars and our club.

Thanks to our great sponsor Geelong Sales Company for providing the Geelong Tool Chest Combo to raffle at the Winternationals.
The Tool Chest was independently drawn by two lovely ladies who drew a red ticket number F54. The lucky winner was Brian Parker of New Beith (pictured above right) with his prize. Brian was very surprised to have won and very impressed with the Geelong Sales Tool Chest.
Many Winternational's racers and crew visited the display intrigued with the 1/10 scale drag cars and impressed by the times and speeds of the extreme cars.
Crowds gathered every time Peter Ward or Glenn Liddell fired up their Nitro Dragsters. Pictured left is Glenn revving his one-of-a-kind custom 4 stroke dragster as the crowd starts to gather to see the car running.
The QMDRA invites everyone who visited our display to come and watch the cars in action at one of our future race meetings, or better still, bring along a RC car and join in the fun.
Congratulations to all the Winternationals winners in the respective classes.

What a great day of racing! The performances by all competitors was of such standards with closely contested races it came down to reactions and the way drivers tilted their head! It was a very enjoyable day with fantastic weather and friendly atmosphere.

The stand out performances were done by Arran Birmingham with his Nitro Funny Car, resetting the Nitro Funny Car ET and Speed records to 1.668 and 126.0 k/ph respectively, smashing the 2008 record set by Todd Commons.
Arran not only rest the records, he top qualified before winning the funny car class.

Mick Mulcahy went under the electric Top Fuel record to top qualify in the class, only to be edged out the final by Stewart Low. This final was a close contest with only .043 in it across the finish line. Mick also made the shootout final only to have Peter Ward capitalize on his hole shot advantage to take the win by a total magin of .097 seconds.
